SHUVOM GHOSE
for
State Representative - News/Events/ContactSun, 20 May 2012 05:55:59 -0800WeeblyAn unfinished campaign.Wed, 15 Sep 2010 14:10:25 -0800http://ghosefor4.com/1/post/2010/09/an-unfinished-campaign.htmlWell, the results came in yesterday, and it didn't seem like we reached enough voters in time- I won't be moving past the primary. But still, coming within 50 votes of the 3 establishment candidates who have lived in the ward for ten to twenty times longer than I have, on my first try, is something to be proud of.

Thank you to everyone who helped my campaign, and thank you especially to the people who voted for me. One young lady, Miranda, stopped by at the polls and told me that this was the first time she had voted, and the reason she did is because I had personally stopped at her house, something no other politician had ever done.

Because of people like Miranda, who would never have seen anyone running for state rep except for at the polls waving a sign, I've made a decision.

Even though we didn't pass the primary, this site will stay up. I'll keep updating it and my public facebook account, so Ward 4 voters will have SOMEPLACE to share their concerns and receive information.

And, come spring, I'm going to keep walking the ward, talking to voters, hearing their concerns and solving their problems, where I can. We're going into very tough times, where hard decisions that have been put off for years or decades will have to be made. That means we will have to know our neighbors and be prepared to help out, and let state government know where our priorities are, loudly and clearly.

So for now, my wife and I will return home and do the things which we've put off for the last 3 months of the campaign, things that give life purpose. All in all, it's been great fun meeting citizens of the ward face to face, hearing their stories, and finding common ground. So I plan to keep doing it.

Anyone is free to contact me with Ward issues they would like discussed, and we'll go from there.

Thanks for everyone who came to the sign wave!Sat, 28 Aug 2010 04:00:42 -0800http://ghosefor4.com/1/post/2010/08/thanks-for-everyone-who-came-to-the-sign-wave.htmlThe sign wave at the corner of Bridge and Mammoth yesterday was a success- thanks to everyone who came out!

We got a lot of honks, so a lot of people must agree that LOWER TAXES = MORE JOBS! (That's what one of the whiteboards in the picture below says.)

We'll do more sign waves around the ward as the General Election approaches!

Wow! You're the first state rep who's come to my house!Sun, 22 Aug 2010 16:34:12 -0800http://ghosefor4.com/1/post/2010/08/wow-youre-the-first-state-rep-whos-come-to-my-house.htmlI was walking Amherst St. yesterday with my wife, and at least two different households said that to me: "Wow! No one running for state rep has ever come to my house before!"

I've been hearing versions of that on every street in the ward: "I had never seen my reps before you!" or "Wow, no politician ever comes down here!"

And that's half the reason I'm running. People should know their reps- that's why we have so many. We're your last line of defense against the government.

The other half is to reduce the size of government responsibly. If you agree with those two ideas, let me know! We need people to take a stand, put signs in their yard, and to talk to their neighbors! Any bit will help!

Why is Lowell Street so looooong?Fri, 13 Aug 2010 14:11:27 -0800http://ghosefor4.com/1/post/2010/08/why-is-lowell-street-so-looooong.htmlI just finished walking Lowell St. tonight, and E. High St. on Wednesday, talking to voters, and it's time to rest my feet! Why did the western part of the ward decide to make its streets so long? I'm just kidding.

If you live on those streets and I missed you, don't worry, I'll swing by at least once more before the election! And as always, the comments and e-mail sections are open to make your voice heard!

And yes, it's a complete coincidence that my clothes happened to match the sign that day. If, after reading my principles, you'd like one for your yard, please e-mail me at contact@ghosefor4.com, or on Facebook at "Ghose for Ward 4".

Endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus!Thu, 12 Aug 2010 13:26:50 -0800http://ghosefor4.com/1/post/2010/08/endorsed-by-the-republican-liberty-caucus.htmlI just learned today that I was endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire!

Quoting from their website: "Originally referred to as “the conscience of the Republican Party,” the RLC was designed in part to bring the GOP, its leadership, and its elected officials back to its basic principles."

They are great, passionate defenders of individual liberty, and I am humbled to get their endorsement. Read more about them and other candidates here: http://rlcnh.org/
But what can little old me do?Mon, 09 Aug 2010 15:09:47 -0800http://ghosefor4.com/1/post/2010/08/but-what-can-little-old-me-do.htmlI talked to a concerned mother today near the north part of the Ward, and she was having the hardest time with the middle school her child went to. And as she listed problem after problem she was having, the stonewall after stonewall she was hitting with the school officials, I was wondering, "What can either of us do- I haven't even gotten past a primary yet, and she's just a parent, not a high-ranking city official."

But then it came to me- what any Manchester resident can do when the city government is not acting for you, but against you. When you think there's no one who will listen. City Council Meetings.

Each month, ANY resident of Manchester can talk for 3 minutes on any topic that concerns them, and the Mayor and Aldermen HAVE TO SIT THERE AND LISTEN. They can't ignore your e-mail, can't delete your voice mail, they have to listen. And that's the first, and usually biggest, step in getting your problem addressed.

I looked it up for her, and the next City Council meeting where the public can speak is: Tuesday September 7th, from 7-7:30 PM. It's at City Hall, Third Floor, in the Aldermanic Chambers (big room, looks like a church). No appointment is required, although I would get there a few minutes early to make sure you get a chance to talk. Be respectful, but be firm- the Aldermen exist to give YOU a voice when the City government stonewalls you. Make it clear that you need them to do their job-represent you!

Oddly enough, Mayor Gatas is also doing an "open door" thing tomorrow night (Tuesday the 10th) in the Mayor's Office, called "Mayor's Night In". I don't know what it's about, but that would also be a way to bend the Mayor's ear. That's from 6-8 PM, City Hall, Third Floor. It says no appointment needed, and you can talk about anything that concerns you about the city. If I've talked to enough voters tomorrow, I'll attend this just to see what the deal is. (Other Mayor's Night In's are scheduled for Sept. 15th, Oct. 26th, Nov. 10th, and Dec. 14th)

Of course, go to the appropriate city office first and deal as politely as you can with the folks there, they're just trying to do their jobs and help out. But if you feel you have NO other recourse, you've exhausted all normal avenues, if you feel helpless against the huge City government, use one of these methods to get your voice back!

And if elected, I promise to do the same for your voice in Concord!

(Why does our city have so many weird words at the end of their web page? Was www.manchesternh.gov taken?) Anyway, look for the "Official Meetings" calendar on the right for dates and times.
